The awards ceremony was held on February 19th in streaming on the BIOL PRIZE YouTube Channel, due to the pandemic, with the presence of its highest representatives, who highlighted that, despite the organizational difficulties, the quality of the samples in this edition has been excellent.

This international competition for the organic beekeeping sector was created in 2008 by the CIBI (Italian Biological Consortium) based on the experience of the BIOL oleico award. Its objective is to spread the quality of honey from organic beekeeping and the dissemination of specific knowledge on the subject; strengthen the relationship between beekeeping and sustainable development; improve differences related to natural biodiversity and crops; promote exchange and technical innovations among those involved in quality beekeeping and sensitize consumers towards agri-food products of the Mediterranean culture, especially honey.

Muria’s business vision also addresses various actions to maintain biodiversity that go beyond caring for bees, promoting pollination and producing a beneficial environmental impact for the planet. It has recently certified, by the hand of PEFC Spain, the first honey from forests certified in Sustainable Forest Management in Europe and the first to be exported worldwide.

For Rafael Muria, president of Miel Muria: “It is a great satisfaction for us and our bees to receive this international award. It is a great pleasure for us to work with nature and bees since organic production hives are one of the best models of sustainable production, contributing to the maintenance of biodiversity. Recognition of this work is an immense honor and the visibility that the BIOLMIEL award gives to companies that manage biodiversity, with criteria of social responsibility, is an important support for the entire beekeeping sector worldwide”.
